Nov 29: In Nagpur on Tuesday Vikas Amte, son of legendary social worker Baba Amte said his father was the self-appointed chancellor for workers based in Anandwan who worked for poor and downtrodden. He gave a lecture during a seminar on 'Working for peaceful coexisence and a just world'.

Amte told former president APJ Abdul Kalam that we don't need nuclear bombs but toilets in lakhs of villages to save the nation.

Tea should be declared as the National drink – Kalam

On Tuesday Nov 23, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam said that the brew can be the official drink. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in Assam declared tea as the state Drink. On the basis of the size of its consumers tea can be the national drink like kalam said. The three day kalam inaugurating the World Tea Science Congress at TES, Jorhat, Assam.

Kalam proposed formation of tea cooperatives so as to address the problems of the small tea planters and their workers.He said diversification and development of value-added products such as medicinal tea, organic tea and flavoured tea.

Kalam further advocated for genetically modified varieties of tea to protect the crops from pests, instead of use of chemical pesticides. He also said that a multi-dimensional research will help tea occupy the world market with its exotic products.

Kalam's Childhood Life to College Life

Kalam's father was a humble boat owner. He had seven siblings and a doting mother who made chapattis for kalam while others give rice for Kalam. His days were start at 4 am and end up with 11 pm. Autobiography of apjabdul kalam was very strange.

His father was not educated so he wanted Kalam to study. He get up at 4 am, take bathe, go for his mathematics class, after that he went to town to distribute the newspaper with his cousin samsuddin.

No electricity in Kalam's town so they use kerosene lamps at early morning and night. He was a bright student so the school teachers supported for his studies. This made kalam fearless.

After his school days he wanted to fly in aircrafts so he took Physics at college. In MIT he studied aeronautics and learns the value of time. He did many projects and he's treated each like his last. Such was his passion. He can take on any role with simplicity.

Kudankulam plant is safe - APJ Abdul Kalam



Kudankulam plant is safe


The Kundankulam project work has been stoped last month because of strike. The villagers fear for their safety in case of a nuclear accident.

The nuclear plant, built by the NPCIL ( Nuclear Power Corp of India Ltd) with Russian has generating two reactor units. The first unit is expected to go in December.

      -->  The project is estimated to cost around Rs.13,160 crore. ($2.6 billion)



Kalam visited the plant and said who have doubt regarding the safety can meet him and get cleared about it. He told that Nuclear energy like hydroelectricity and solar energy is safe and clean. He also told that our nation have less power and i am absolutely confident about its safety.

     >   The work station is 1300Km away from the seismic centre point and so there is no afraid of Tsunami.

     >   If generator fails there is automatic cooling of the plant and also have double wall protection for workers inside and outside. Kalam said the workers are 100 per cent safe.

     >   Kalam said the flush core melt waste will clean up by "Bath Tub" facility . It will take care of  all  radiation problems.

     >    He was also sure that there would be no damage to the surrounding environment.

Abdul kalam Personal life was full of struggles and hard work. His Father was a devout Muslim. His Father owned boats which he rented out to local fishermen and so he have many Christian friends.  And his father is also a good friend of Hindu religious leaders and the school teachers at Rameshwaram.  For his studies abdul kalam started his career as a newspaper vendor.  


Kalam is a scholar of Thirukkural. He quotes at least one kural in most of his speeches.  He has written several poems in Tamil. He had written several inspirational books. His autobiography Wings of Fire book motivate Indian Youth.
